Climate Change Mitigation HUB – strategy, development paths, goals and actions
At the end of May this year, the Regional Chamber of Commerce (RIG) in Katowice – at the initiative of Agnieszka Pająk from AQUAcell and Marcin Mistarz from MARTECH‑PLUS – established a Climate Hub that aims to become a pioneering transnational organisation on a global scale.
The Hub’s main objective is to create and implement solutions that not only aim to prevent the degradation of the natural environment, but also to revitalise areas already affected by pollution or the effects of sudden climatic events, which pose an increasing threat to security, economic stability and public health.
As chairwoman of CCMH, during a month‑long stay in the United Arab Emirates I held a series of meetings with government and semi‑government entities to establish cooperation and define its formal framework.
Workshops for the Swiss government – Embassy of Abu Dhabi in the UAE
At the invitation of Rania Kirreh, Ph.D., adviser on international cooperation and sustainable development, who heads the office of the Regional Head of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, I was invited to give a presentation on the environmental, economic and social benefits of the molecular structure of water.
The embassy thanked us for the interesting discussions during the SWUP meeting and expressed special appreciation for the presentation I prepared, adding that it looks forward to further lively discussions on innovative solutions to water‑related problems. The role of this unit is to bring together stakeholders from the government, NGO, scientific and business sectors to share knowledge and carry out concrete tasks aimed at ensuring water and food security in the region and around the world, as well as addressing social problems in developing countries.
Meeting with Abu Dhabi Global Market
Abu Dhabi Global Market reacted very positively to the intention of registering the Hub in their jurisdiction. This organisation, which hosts the world’s first carbon credit exchange, is an ideal partner for the ambitious task of creating the first cryptocurrency secured by plastic waste, which will be used by governments around the world to finance social and governmental projects. As a financial centre of the world, it is a perfect location for the Hub’s head office. It is worth adding that the relationship between Silesia and the Abu Dhabi local and federal governments is also lively, facilitating cooperation. AD and the UAE are leaders in legislation aimed at environmental protection and their immediate implementation and enforcement. In addition, the world’s largest climate fund is also located in ADGM, as is HUB71, whose priority is climate technology.
Launch of AgriFood Growth & Water Abundance in Abu Dhabi
I had the honour of attending the launch of this organisation in Abu Dhabi. At a closed meeting bringing together the government and private sectors, a new unit was presented, established by ADIO (Abu Dhabi Investment Office) to provide water and food security and to scale up the practices developed in Abu Dhabi for other regions and countries.
The goal of ADIO is to create an ecosystem that will fulfil key tasks such as building physical and digital infrastructure, providing financing and access to capital, globally recognised regulations and certifications, innovation and R&D leading to partnerships between the private and public sectors.
Dubai Climate Change Authority
In March 2024, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid established the Climate Change Authority. The body’s task is to promote sustainable practices, safeguard biodiversity and expand green spaces and nature reserves. I had the opportunity to meet with the organisation’s management at the very beginning of its formation. We discussed the possibilities of cooperation with the Hub as a partner providing knowledge and solutions, as well as transnational activities that can strengthen the position of both organisations and multiply positive practices on a global scale.
